The Escanaba Department of
Public Safety, under the guidance of Director James Hansen, has announced
the installment of new Community Outreach Programs (COPs).
One of which, is the trading card program. The trading card program
has been developed to open the lines of communication between the youth
and officers. The program will develop a positive relationship
between the youth and Public Safety Officers. Recognizing that
children often times have difficulties relating with police officers, this
is an attempt to eliminate those barriers.
The trading cards are
available to anyone who requests them, however, the program is targeted
towards the youth in our community. Youths (age 12 and under) will
be able to collect the cards by approaching an officer, introducing
themselves and asking for a card.
IMPORTANT - Remember
not to talk to officers while they are writing tickets, appear to be
conducting an investigation, or when they have their emergency lights
activated on their patrol cars.

On the front of the trading
card the youth can expect to find an officer's picture, name and rank,
departmental information and the department's shoulder patch. On the
back of the trading card there will be a brief biography of the officer, a
personal message from each officer and departmental contact information.
The youth can acquire a
master card, with all of the participating officer's names on it, at the
front desk of public safety. The youth can then collect all of the
individual officer's cards to complete their collection. When the
collection is complete, the youth can bring the cards to public safety
where they will receive a COP's t-shirt and other assorted gifts and
prizes. |
