PARK AND RECREATION FACILITIES

 

MUNICIPAL BEACH

The Beach will open early June and will close in mid August. Located on Aronson Island in Ludington Park; beach supervision starting at from 12:00 noon, seven days a week by Red Cross Certified Lifeguards; swim lessons (see recreation activities); Phone Beach Director at 786-8709 or Recreation Department at 786-4141.

Opens in June and closes mid-August; Located in the 1300 block of North 19th Street; Open starting at Noon, Monday through Friday; CLOSED WEEKENDS; Open to children 3 to 10 years of age only; Supervised during hours listed; restroom facilities; Phone Pool Attendant at 786-9836 or the Recreation Department at 786-4141.

MUNICIPAL MARINA

Officially opens May 9; Harbor Master/Dock Attendants on duty from 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 p.m. Memorial Day through Labor Day; dock/slip rentals, basin mooring, transient dock space; gasoline, diesel fuel, motor oil, water, ice, sanitary pump-out facilities, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, bike rentals and concessions; Phone Harbor Master at 786-9614 or toll free at 1-800-700-9614.marina1.jpg (22594 bytes)

SMALL BOAT LAUNCHES

Located at the Municipal Marina on Aronson Island (Ludington Park) and the North Shore Boat Launch on the Escanaba River; Barrier-free skid pier; car/trailer parking and restrooms; Launch site lighted during late evening and early morning hours; $45.00 per vessel per season or $15.00 weekly launch permit available from Harbor Master or at the Utility Window of City Hall; $4.00 Daily Launch Permits available at launch sites; Questions or information, call the Harbor Master at 786-9614 or the Recreation Department at 786-4141.

CIVIC CENTER - COMMUNITY MEETING ROOMS

Open 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and selected evening hours during summer months; for information call the Civic Center at 786-4141.

LUDINGTON PARK PAVILION

ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED for family socials, picnics and outings; Located in Ludington Park; $30.00 reservation fee Monday - Friday. $35.00 reservation fee for Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. For reservations call the Recreation Department at 786-4141.

LUDINGTON PARK GAZEBO

ADVANCE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED for wedding ceremonies, family and group pictures, etc.; located in Ludington Park. $20.00 reservation fee Monday - Sunday.  For reservations call the Recreation Department at 786-4141

TENNIS COURTS

Ludington Park (4 courts); Royce Park Courts (South 19th Street/7th Avenue; 2 courts); Rose Park Court (Stephenson/Washington Avenue; 1 court); Bay de Noc College Courts (6 courts); Veteran's Park Courts (Lake Shore Drive/13th Avenue South; 2 courts); Escanaba High School Courts (5th Avenue South/26th Street; 4 courts).

BASKETBALL COURTS

Ludington Park; Royce Park (South 19th Street/7th Avenue); Stephenson Park (North 19th Street/15th Avenue South); and Veteran's Park (Lake Shore Drive/12th Avenue South).

SOCCER FIELD

Located in Ludington Park; ADVANCE RESERVATION REQUIRED.

VOLLEYBALL COURTS

Located in Ludington Park - 6 beach-sand courts.

LUDINGTON PARK

Open 7:30 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. daily; picnicking; children's playground area; informal ballfield; open areas for informal games; four lighted tennis courts; six sand volleyball courts; outdoor basketball court; fitness circuit; pavilion and gazebo (see above); bandshell with concerts scheduled throughout the summer; bicycle path; public; restrooms; contact Public Works Superintendent at 786-1842 or the Recreation Department at 786-4141.

HARBOR HIDEOUT CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND

In Ludington Park; 22,500 square foot children's adventure facility; suitable for children of all ages; " A "must" for all residents and visitors alike; playground is barrier-free and nearly all handicapped accessible, slides, transfer points, swings and playground cover suitable for the mobility impaired.

Dog Owners Please Note: When walking your pet within any City park/recreation facility, your pet must be under control and you must be prepared to clean up all droppings, as per City Ordinance. Doggy bags available at Municipal Dock area and 4th Street near Lake Shore Drive intersection.
