Code Compliance relates to the “Property Maintenance Codes” that were adopted by the City of Escanaba, by reference, of the BOCA Property Maintenance Code, Fourth Edition of 1993 and is enforced by the Code Compliance Inspector of the City of Escanaba.

PM-101.2 Scope: defines this as; The scope of these codes are established to protect the public health, safety and welfare in all existing structures, residential and nonresidential, and on all existing premises by establishing minimum requirements and standards for premises, structures, equipment, and facilities for light, ventilation, space, heating, sanitation, protection from the elements, life safety, safety from fire and other hazards, and for safe and sanitary maintenance; fixing the responsibility of owners, operators and occupants: regulating the occupancy of existing structures and premises, and providing for administration, enforcement and penalties.

Many such enforcement activities include but are not limited to excessive grass and weeds, clear and accessible sidewalks of snow and ice during winter, unsanitary conditions such as garbage or refuse on property, unregistered/unlicensed vehicles, and inspections of registered rental units etc.
