City Tree Maintenance

The Department of Public Works is responsible for the following:

  • Removing dead and hazardous trees
  • Monitoring disease and insect populations
  • Planting new trees
  • Pruning established trees
  • Maintaining a computerized inventory of the city trees

If a tree is removed near your property, you are eligible to receive the wood. If you or a nearby resident do not wish to keep the wood, the tree crew will remove it from the premises.

The department budgets for and plants about 25 young trees each year.  Tree species planted in the past include red oak, sugar maple, ironwood, green ash, linden, hawthorn, serviceberry, red pine, white pine, white spruce and flowering crab.
