Collection Guidelines

Please follow these simple guidelines when putting your garbage or recycling out for collection:

WHEN:  Cart must be out by 6:30 am on Collection Day.

WHERE should you place your cart:

  • Place carts at the curbline or alleyline depending on designated collection location.
  • Store carts away from the alleyline or curbline when it is not your collection day. This is a city ordinance.

HOW carts should be set out:

  • The arrow on the lid must point to the street or alley, the handle must face the house.
  • Place at least 3' from parked cars and at least 3' from objects (mailboxes, buildings, fences, utility poles, other carts, bulk waste items, etc.).
  • LOOK UP!  Do not place cart under low-hanging branches or powerlines.
  • Regular household trash must be placed INSIDE the cart.  Garbage on the outside of the cart will not be collected.
  • Do not overload cart. The lid should always be kept closed to control odors and animals. This will also keep out rainwater.
  • Food waste should be sealed in plastic bags, never put food waste directly in cart.
  • Saw dust should also be sealed in plastic bags.

THESE ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED:

  • branches and other yard trimmings
  • building materials
  • hot ashes
  • motor oil
  • solvents
  • paints
  • pool chemicals
  • hazardous materials
